Who Understands Me?

“Jesus, our High Priest, understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His Mercy, and we will find Grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:15-16

This is welcoming news! Sometimes we wonder if anybody really understands us. We would all like to have around us someone who knows our character through and through; who sees our shortcomings but doesn’t condemn us because he/she understands perfectly and sympathizes with us and still loves us purely and unconditionally; someone who is flawless and can give us the wisdom and guidance and all that we need to move on, a stronger, better person.

I do not think that such a person exists because all of us have only limited knowledge of the other and we also have limited wisdom and power to fix things. We are imperfect. But what about God? Does He know us well enough and does He have the necessary power? Is He totally dependable? We are told: “….I am fearfully and wonderfully made…….My unformed frame was not hidden from You when I was conceived and skillfully made in the womb…… You saw my frame even before it was completed and in your mind all my members were recorded, and the days fashioned for me long before I was born.” Psalm 139:14-16

So there is One who really knows! Unfailingly God cleanses us and shows us His mercy, not condemnation. Then He gives His Grace – His help, to bring us out of whatever situation we find ourselves in, and to strengthen us so that we can walk more steadily in His Light.

Like the psalmist we can cry out: “…..His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (Psalm 34:1)
