Getting Close
“But it is good for me to draw near to God…” Psalm 73:28
The entire Bible speaks of an intended close, intimate relationship between God and mankind: “…I have called you by name; you are mine!” (Isaiah 43:1) Because this is God’s plan, there is a repeated call by Jesus: “Come unto Me…”(Matthew 10:28) and follow closely. The good news is that He accepts all those who come: “Whoever comes, I shall never turn away.” (John 6:37) And there is more! – when one draws near to God, God does not stand off at a distance and wait. He acts: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8
So how will we benefit? The psalmist tells us: “Come and experience the works of God; He is awesome in His treatment of the children of men.” (Psalm 66:5). Jesus said “ …….I have come that they might have life and have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10). The main purpose for His coming is our salvation and eternal life. We are also told “to come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)Throughout the Bible we see the numerous provisions that God has placed at our disposal; and finally we will hear the words: “Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” (Matt.25:34) Behold what manner of love He has bestowed on us indeed!
Here are some tips on how to draw close: Approach with faith, thanksgiving, trust, sincerity and worship. Commune, through prayer, with your loving Father; return His love; get to know His Word and practice it in your daily lives. The closer you get, the better your discipleship and the greater your success in life!
