Courage

“ God did not give you a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of self-discipline.

Therefore, do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord... Who has saved us and called us to a holy life... because of His own purpose and grace... So hold fast... and the good that has been committed to you, keep it through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.”

- 2 Timothy 1: 7-9 & 14

This epistle written by Paul to Timothy is known to be the last writing of Paul to Christians. He addresses it to Timothy whom he describes as his “dearly beloved son.” Therefore he wants to give Timothy (and all Christians) the best advice and the most comforting words at this time. We should also note that these same words would have been comforting to Paul himself as he sat writing to Timothy in a Roman prison where he was awaiting a sham trial and execution.

According to the verses:

  1. We are called to live holy lives. This is God’s purpose for us.

  2. We have been redeemed and can therefore live the holy life to which God has called us.

  3. We are not alone – God has given us His Holy Spirit.

  4. Through the Holy Spirit we have power, love and self-discipline.

  5. We should hold on to all that God has given to us to help us to achieve His perfect purpose for us.
