What He Means to Us

“Let all that I am wait quietly before the Lord, for my hope is in Him. He alone is my Rock, and my Salvation, my Fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my Refuge, a Rock where no enemy can reach me.” Psalm 62:5-7

When I read these verses, I had to learn them by heart so that I could say them anywhere, any time. Those words sum up well what God can be to us if we place full trust in Him. The psalmist involves his entire being in a relationship with God as He acknowledges that God means everything possible to him. He places his hope in One that cannot fail him. God is the Rock, the foundation of his being and life; and with such a foundation he “will not be shaken.” His stability will always remain. God is also his Salvation – without God we are all doomed. It is Salvation through Christ that gives abundant and eternal life. God is his Fortress, his strong protection. Jesus taught us to pray for deliverance from evil. In this life we need the kind of protection that we can get only from an omnipotent God. God is also his Refuge, his place of safety. This too is a necessity for all – a place where we can be assured of safety and a place where the enemy, in any form, cannot reach us.

With such an acknowledgement of Who and What God is, the psalmist receives victory and honor from God. Everyone needs victory and success, a sense of value and respect – all of which we can receive from God.

Can you imagine what the psalmist must have felt as he penned those words? Can you imagine how much God meant to the psalmist? Does God mean all of that to you? Get closer to Him, grow spiritually, and reap all the benefits.
