When I hear my name

When I hear My Name

“Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine!” Isaiah 43:1

These words give me such a sense of joy, happiness and security. God loves us so deeply – not as members of a group or even a church; God loves us individually and He knows our names. Sometimes we feel uncomfortable, maybe embarrassed when we forget the name of someone we should know. But God never forgets – He calls us by name. Notice that He doesn’t only know your name but He calls you. He wants you near to Him, He wants you to be close to Him. Why? We belong to Him, He has given up His only Son to save us and He pronounces His claim on us: “You are mine!”

So are you close to God or are you an estranged child? How much distance is there between you and God? Do you even acknowledge that you are His, saved by the blood of Jesus Christ? What is your response to God calling you by your name? There is no mistake here; God calls YOU.

Work hard on your response to His call by keeping in close touch with Him through prayer. Also you can’t be close to Him unless you know His Word, which He has preserved for us as His guide to living the life that He intends us to live. But just knowing the Word is not enough: “Be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (James1:22). Therefore we have to live the life that shows we are His.
